The Congo costume of the Barranquilla Carnival has its origin in the war dances of the Congo, in Africa. The tradition passed from Africa to Cartagena and from Cartagena to Barranquilla. Some historians claim that the design of the congo suit is a mockery of ancient Spanish soldiers.
